THE INFERNO GAUNTLET:
A New Immersive Writing Challenge Ignites the Online Writing Community This June
A month-long gamified writing event blending storytelling, competition, worldbuilding, and community launches inside the WRITER’S ROOM GUILD on DISCORD.

June 1, 2026 — This FREE online writing community is entering the fire.
This June, writers from around the world will gather for THE INFERNO GAUNTLET, a 30-day immersive writing challenge hosted by HOUSE DRAGON, a rapidly growing Discord-based writing guild focused on creativity, accountability, storytelling, and community-driven worldbuilding.
Designed as a mythic fantasy-inspired alternative to traditional writing challenges, THE INFERNO GAUNTLET combines novel writing, writing sprints, collaborative events, live competitions, and narrative-driven progression systems into a single large-scale creative experience.
Participants choose from one of four writing paths:
• Path of the Squire — 15,000 Words
• Path of the Knight — 30,000 Words
• Path of the Champion — 50,000 Words
• Path of the Legendary Hero — 85,000 Words
Throughout the month, writers compete in live Arena Events, writing sprint battles, collaborative boss fights, and weekly narrative challenges designed to strengthen their manuscripts while encouraging consistency, creativity, and long-form storytelling discipline.
At the center of the event is the Dragon Chalice, a community-wide point system where every 100 words written contributes to a growing shared reward pool known as Chalice Points. The winning Path at the conclusion of the event claims the Chalice and distributes its rewards among surviving challengers.
This word-count centered, open reporting and narrative competition is geared towards professional and indie writers alike, offering multiple difficulty levels that should fit any life-style. National Novel Writing Month is in November, and the organization that once ran a beloved event is gone, the INFERNO GAUNTLET is here to fill that void.
“The goal was never just to create another word-count challenge,” said Michael Cresta, founder of The Writer’s Room Discord and creator of THE INFERNO GAUNTLET. “We wanted to build something immersive. Something that made writers feel like they were participating in a living story while also genuinely improving their books.”
Unlike traditional writing competitions, THE INFERNO GAUNTLET emphasizes both productivity and craft development. Weekly events focus on narrative depth, endurance, emotional storytelling, and manuscript expansion while integrating a larger fantasy narrative surrounding the mysterious legacy of House Dragon and the awakening of an ancient beast beneath the Arena.
The event culminates in a community-wide Final Door Event in which participants collectively attempt to defeat the Dragon through a massive guild-wide writing push.
The Writer’s Room has become known for combining fantasy guild aesthetics with real writing accountability systems, offering writers a highly social environment centered around long-form fiction, writing improvement, collaborative storytelling, and creator growth. They host large writing events every quarter and monthly flash fiction competitions monthly in an active and creative community space.
